Overnight shelters

A number of Adirondack overnight shelters  have been constructed for long distance walkers by Mountain Meitheal a group of environmental volunteers who undertake conservation and restoration projects on mountain and forest tracks.

The shelters are constructed on a raised platform which can sleep four or five people, some provide a fire-ring for cooking and boiling-up.

Adirondack shelters originate, as the name suggests in the Adirondack Mountains of New York state. They are a popular feature in US wilderness areas and in Nordic countries where they are used as temporary accommodation during hiking and fishing trips.
